Re: Neuer Flipper "Dirty Dishes" / New "Dirty Dishes" pinball table
Very cool rubem,
you built it well, my compliment.
Since I built one myself years ago, I know how much time you put in there.

Thank you very much from your kind remarks. No introduction needed, I'm already a fan of your models Pirates of the Caribbean was perhaps the greatest inspiration for my much more modest and smaller project. I referred to it again and again. For the ball return mechanism, for example, I tried an approach similar to yours (a brilliant solution) but I had to give up on it because it added even more extra width to the right, I already had extended the width to accommodate the plunger.
Cheers,
Rubem
Re: Neuer Flipper "Dirty Dishes" / New "Dirty Dishes" pinball table
Thanks for sharing your great model with all those interesting details, Rubem!
I have a question with regard to the solenoids:
- which dc resistance do they have, is it below 10 Ohms?
Are they of the type "Tau-0530T" from aliexpress?
Thanks, uffi

Re: Neuer Flipper "Dirty Dishes" / New "Dirty Dishes" pinball table
Hello uffi,
The model I used is called JF-0530B, rated at 6 V. I posted more details about it here, just when I gave up on pneumatics for this project. At the time I measured the coil resistance, it's around 5.5 Ω. juh included a link to this solenoid on eBay above ↑.
I hope this helps!

Re: Neuer Flipper "Dirty Dishes" / New "Dirty Dishes" pinball table
Thanks for the fast reply, Rubem.
I have now ordered similar types on aliexpress:
TAU-0530T 12V 1,8A i.e. ca. 6,67 Ohms
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/32731717 ... 4c4dlrozJj
I will also try to build a pinball similar to yours. Thanks again, uffi

Re: Neuer Flipper "Dirty Dishes" / New "Dirty Dishes" pinball table
Hello Uffi,
The TAU-0530T is probably the same solenoid from another manufacturer. Since it is rated at 12 V, though, I suspect you'll have to drive them with voltages higher than my 19.5 V and/or for more than 50 ms, otherwise they will not be able to shoot the ball fast enough. Please share your results here.
Greetings,
Rubem
That's wonderful! I'll be glad to share some of my project files with you if you want me to, including the part layers (as shown here) and the Arduino code (partially still under development, though).

Re: Neuer Flipper "Dirty Dishes" / New "Dirty Dishes" pinball table
Hello Rubem,
thanks for your advice. I will use a power supply rated 16.5 Volts and 4.5 Amperes. I plan to extend the initial pulse to 100ms in a first step. With both solenoids activated at the same time they will consume ca. 4A leaving still some remaining current for the rest of the circuits and avoid a large voltage drop on the supply.
Have you measured the supply voltage drop when activating both of your solenoids at the same time?
If I had selected the 6V version of TAU-0530T with an ohmic resistance of 2.5 Ohms drawing 16.5 V/2.5 Ohms = 6 Amperes each, I think the power supply would not be able to hold its voltage at 16 Volts.
And I will use the VNH2SP30 high power low-ohmic MOSFET motor driver (< 30 milli Ohms) to have lowest possible voltage drop on the driver. I suppose your L298 driver will have a voltage drop of >2 Volts with >2 Amperes flowing through the bipolar transistors.
I will share my results once I am ready.
Kind regards, uffi

Re: Neuer Flipper "Dirty Dishes" / New "Dirty Dishes" pinball table
Hi uffi,
Your calculations make sense, although the coil resistance of the JF-0530B is not so low, my multimeter shows 5.5 Ω. I actually didn't measure the voltage drop, but I suppose my power supply can handle short peaks of higher current anyway because the solenoids remain powerful even when both are activated at the same time. The first power supply I tested clearly could not handle the current, it switched off for a short while when I pressed both buttons.
I look forward to seeing your results.
Cheers,
Rubem

Hello rubem,
first when I saw this I thought: Wow, is this a new set from fischertechnik? Where can I buy it?
Congratulations!

Hi Florian,

Hahahaha Who knows, perhaps ft will release a similar kit one day. The controller alone must have around 30 I/O pins, though, so I doubt it Thanks for your comment!

Rubem

Great stuff, Rubem! Apart from the mechanical and electrical design, I particularly liked how you realized the dirty dishes motive. If only it could do the real dishes!
