Gift for a 5-year-old child

Beitrag von onghyr » 14 Apr 2026, 04:29

Hello everyone,
My daughter is turning 5 years old, and I would like to give her an ft (fischertechnik) construction set as a gift. So far, she hasn’t had much experience with this type of toy, except for some Lego.
Right now, I’m trying to get an overview of the current ft product range.
Here are some sets I’ve been considering:

PS 5 :))))
Marble Competition

Dynamic L2

Or sets from the “Chain Reactions” series: Crazy Reactions, Funny Reactions, Funny Machines

Alternatively, I’m also thinking about a basic starter set, but I haven’t found a suitable one yet.

Could you please advise which set would be most appropriate for her age?

Hello onghyr,

and welcome to this forum!

I would recommend a simpler set than Dynamics for beginning. How about https://www.fischertechnik.de/de-de/pro ... junior-pro or something in that range? Several models (not "500 parts, 3 models"), and a 5 year old child will see success. You can then see how things go and expand.

Best regards and have fun!
Stefan

Hi onghyr,

I wouldn’t rule out your original ideas outright, as clearly the finished models are very attractive to play with for a 5-year old, even if they are most probably too complicated to build for them.

So, for me, it would depend if this is a "here you are, for you to play alone with it" gift, or a gift that comes with shared playtime with you or other grown-ups. In the first case, the others already gave a lot of great recommendations, in the second, your ideas might deserve a second look.

I have very fond memories of building a very complicated statics bridge together with my father when, I think, I was not much older that your daughter, even if my role was not much more than picking the right parts and assembling some of the easier sub-parts. I'm sure you'll find the right solution.
