I became very intrigued by some news recently published in the British Autocar magazine about Volkswagen admitting that the trend to replace important physical buttons with touchscreen controls was "a mistake" and they will never do it again. This is said by Andreas Mindt, head of design in VW.
I wonder how hard it was to come to this conclusion, since anyone who has access to most recent cars can easily perceive that touchscreens can't solve everything inside a vehicle.
Other similar news can be found here and in this Swedish car test. I'm sure there must be more.
As a UX/UI designer (although not for vehicles, but anyway), I'd very much like to hear your thoughts about this matter. I'm sure there are many German engineers in this forum

Cheers,
Rubem
