Re: mbed
Was ist 'mbed' ?

Re: mbed

Re: mbed
First of all:Programming with the visual programming language (VPL) of MS-RDS is less difficult than RoboPro.
The step from workflow oriented programming to massage oriented programming is fundamental.
It is a complete different approach. The most important thing is, that you must learn to think in action and reaction and that on a more abstract level than with RoboPro.
-) Work flow oriented programming is very close to imperative programming.
-)Message flow oriented programming is close to event driven programming but knows a more abstract level of reasoning.
My guess is that people with a heavy imperative programming experience/background like C, will meet a lot of problems with VPL in case they cannot take distance from their imperative programming background.
At the other hand people without experience with imperative or object oriented programming will learn message flow oriented programming very fast.
That is also the reason that this message flow concept is very suitable in an educational setting.
Remark:
Don't mix-up the VPL with using MS-RDS with a textual programming language like C#.
For this you will need more knowledge and experience with object oriented design and programming.
Be welcome in Schoonhoven (NL; 6-11-2010) or Muster (D; 14-11-2010) at the FT-Open Days where I will attend with my poster presentation and demo about VPL/MS-RDS in relation with the fischertechnik interfaces.

Re: mbed
Hi Ford
Message flow implied in VPL real concurrency and decentralization (use of the available cores or distribution over more systems), coordination between the tasks.
These all on a lower level, the end use does not see this, he is designing and programming on a higher abstraction level. So the program designer can stay close to his problem and has no reason to take care to lower level issues like task synchronization, distribution of task, coordination between tasks.
Message flow oriented analysis, design and programming is not the same as event driven programming as you do in C. There is a big difference in abstraction.
The notion of Message flow is very nearby of how we self communicate in for example: an organization.
As I wrote before, in VPL you are programming and resolving problems on a different and higher abstraction level.
Does you read already the description of the DSS and CCR to get a notion of the under laying technology?
Beside this VPL, there is also a 3D visual simulation environment as integrated part of the MS-RDS available.

Maybe Microsoft offers a translation into locale languages.
But I guess that this subject is too specialized, and only available in English.

Re: mbed

Re: mbed
The mbed challenge is nearly over and I submitted my contributions. One of the two submissions concerned the Internet to fischertechnik interface. Currently it only supports serial interfaces (Robo and Intelligent). However the mbed and the compiler are still there so I'm planning to implement a USB host interface for the other fischertechnik interfaces.
