I have two different types of chain links.
One is #36248 Catching chain, and the other type does not have the little square nubbins that hold the treads for building tanks, tractors, etc.
My nephew broke one of the tread assemblies, destroying one of the links of the chain, and I want to rebuild the tread, using both types of link, since I only need the 36248 link in every second position.
I have a few hundred of the regular links.
My question is; What is the easiest way to separate the links? Some are fairly easy to unlink, but others are very difficult.

Re: Two types of chain
Hello and happy welcome to this forum!
To separate chain parts, hold them in a 90° angle. Especially if you have several chain parts on both sides, you just turn the one with the "grip" (not with the bar which gets gripped) out of the bar of the next part. This makes quite sure that the removal is easy and does not destroy a part. I hope the explanation is sufficient?
Best Regards,
Stefan

Re: Two types of chain
That works a lot better than keeping them in line!
I am using a small screwdriver now to save my fingernails.
Thank you!
